Skip laurel trees are a go-to for many people looking for lush, dense privacy hedges.

Smaller and more compact than most laurel trees, these vibrant evergreen trees can create living screens that are a great size for any yard.

While they thrive in full sunlight, Skip laurels also fare very well in the shade—just one of the attributes that makes them low-maintenance and easy to manage.

Skip laurels are smaller than other laurels, allowing them to create more neat, compact hedges when pruned. They naturally have a vase-like shape. Skip laurels grow to be feet tall and feet wide, with a moderate growth rate of roughly 24 inches per year.

Their dense foliage is glossy green year-round, and fragrant white blossoms bloom in spring. First, you should clear the area, taking care to remove any weeds, grass or other plants.

Do this with a garden fork or a small trowel. If there are lots of weeds in the area, you can add some weed killer around two weeks before you plant the hedge. Then you should dig the holes for your hedges. When you dig the hole, ensure that you churn up the soil at the bottom so the roots can bury down more easily. If your soil is particularly hard or sandy, add some loam-based compost to the bottom of the hole. Remove dead or damaged branches as soon as possible to encourage laurel growth.

Sharp pruners or hedge trimmers will make this a lot easier and quicker to do. This makes the bush come back bushier and thicker than before more rapidly.

If you have buds on the branches, cut around a quarter to half of an inch above the bud to encourage growth. We stock several varieties including common laurel hedges , bay laurel , Portuguese laurel , spotted laurel hedging and more.
